If you're in Dhaka, Haji Biriyani is a must-visit. Established in 1939, this iconic restaurant offers a unique taste of traditional Bangladeshi biryani. The mutton biryani stands out with its aromatic, tender meat, though some diners note that the balance of meat to bone can be an issue. Priced reasonably at around 260 TK per plate, it's a great value for the quality of food offered.
While the ambiance is minimalistic and space is limited, the vibrant atmosphere adds to its charm. Expect a bustling crowd, especially during peak hours. Some patrons, like Sally Chung, have appreciated the rich flavor and just-right rice portion, although others found the cooking style a bit on the plain side. Patience is key due to the popularity and tendency for sold-out dishes by the afternoon.
Overall, Haji Biriyani blends history, taste, and cultural richness into a memorable dining experience. Whether you dine in or take out, it's advisable to try this delightful establishment at least once during your trip.

Reviews for Haji Biriyani
Review highlights
Based on 7,465 reviewsHaji Biriyani, a longstanding establishment in Dhaka since 1939, is renowned for its traditional mutton biryani with a flavorful aroma and tender meat. Customers frequently note its reasonable pricing and authentic taste, though some mention a higher bone-to-meat ratio in dishes. The biryani is typically less oily and mildly spiced, appealing to those who prefer lighter flavor profiles. The restaurant itself is small and often crowded, lacking parking facilities and offering a minimalistic ambiance. While dine-in experiences can be limited due to space and wait times, takeout remains popular. Overall, Haji Biriyani is appreciated for its heritage and consistent quality, though some guests consider the food average and highlight the simplicity of the setting.
The food has excellent taste but bone's are more than meat because it comes with mutton pieces. It is reasonable price 260 TK per plate. We took 2 plate with borhani & 1/2 litter mineral water and a packet of parcel it does cost around 900 plus. However, if you go nearby then you should try.
Haji Biriyani, established in 1939, was high on my list for my Dhaka trip. I first went on a public holiday and found it closed, so I made sure to return the next day. Even at 4 PM, there was a queue for tables. After being seated, we had to wait for the next batch as the previous one had sold out. The aroma was rich, the mutton tender and flavorful—definitely worth the wait. The rice portion was just right for me, especially since I often couldn’t finish meals elsewhere, though locals might find it a bit modest.
Very old and famous biriyani shop. I tried their biriyani made of mutton. Masalas are very less so that you will get a raw test of biriyani. Not so oily also. Even if you have full plate you will not have any suffocation in your stomach. Remember there is no parking facilities.
The restaurant is very small and always crowded. I went three times and couldn’t get a seat, so I had to take the food home. The biryani was decent, but I was surprised to be charged an extra 20tk just for a basic paper box on top of the 240tk price. I didn’t get the full dine-in experience, so this might not be a complete review, but it wasn’t a bad one overall.
It's a traditional place in old Dhaka. Hazi Briani is one of the oldest Briani in Bangladesh.Food quality is average. And the ambiance is quite minimalistic and simple. The place is quite small. Overall Average.
Recently i tried the original haji biriyani.it was good, with enough quantity of meat but short of rice whatever you may need two plate to meet your appetite. I think rice is not enough , it is kind of a marketing strategy i think. But overall taste was good but not quite much.
